Weber State cross country All-Americans and married couple Christian Allen and Summer Allen join DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss both qualifying for the NCAA Division 1 Championships on Nov. 20 at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, Fla. They will be joined by teammate Billie Hatch, a Division 2 All-American at Dixie State in 2019, before transferring to Weber State. Christian earned All-America honors also in 2019 by finishing 14th in the 10-kilometer race at the Division 1 championship meet at the LaVern Gibson course in Terre Haute, Ind. Summer, who qualified for her first NCAA final in 2013, returned to competition after giving birth to their son Miles and placed seventh in the 6-kilometer race at the March 15 championship in Stillwater, Okla. They both express their gratitude for earning another opportunity to race at Apalachee Regional Park after Christian finished 32nd in the 8-kilometer race and Summer placed 62nd in the 6-kilometer race Oct. 15 at the NCAA Pre-Nationals. They also examine how both Weber State teams just missed qualifying for nationals and how proud they are, along with Hatch, to be representing the Wildcats by qualifying out of the toughest region in the country after Christian finished fourth, with Summer securing eighth and Hatch 12th to advance as individuals. Summer and Hatch make Weber State one of three schools to have a pair of women qualify individually, along with Abilene Christian and Kentucky. They also analyze the strength of the Big Sky Conference, which has the Northern Arizona and Southern Utah men advancing, along with Christian as an individual, as well as Montana State teammates Duncan Hamilton and Matthew Richtman. Northern Arizona also qualified for the women's final, along with Alison Pray of Southern Utah, Katie Camarena of Portland State, Summer and Hatch as individuals. Christian explains how competing against Northern Arizona, Colorado and Brigham Young throughout the year has helped prepare him for the championship race and how the 10-kilometer distance favors his racing style. Summer shares how she has continued to develop and improve following a challenging start to the season to give both her and Hatch the potential to earn All-America honors. They also speak about the motivation and inspiration their son has provided them with and share gratitude for family, friends, coaches and teammates who have continued to support them with their academics, athletics and childcare following Miles' birth in February 2020.
