Track and field ready to open indoor season

OGDEN, Utah The men's and women's track and field teams will open up their indoor season this weekend when they travel to participate in the Snake River Open. It is the fifth straight season the Wildcats have opened up their season on the campus of Idaho State. lt;br />In a release from the Big Sky on Tuesday morning, the women's team was picked to finish second receiving 111 votes while the men were picked to finish fifth receiving 92 votes. lt;br /> lt;br />WOMEN lt;br />"The women's side will be led by our distance runners who had a good cross country season," Director of Track and Field Dan Walker said. "We are expecting that to cross over into the indoor season. We have some young high jumpers who should be at the top of the conference." lt;br />Junior Jamie Stokes will look to build on her performance from last year's Big Sky Championships were she earned All-Conference honors in three events. lt;br />One of the women's strength this season will be in the throws. Jazmin Porter will look to move her name farther up the records list. Porter is currently ranked seventh in the shot put and third in the weight throw in school history. lt;br />Ashley Kealamakia, who finished third in the 800-meters last season, will enter the season having run the seventh fastest time in school history. lt;br />Tawnie Moore will enter the season looking to build on her impressive freshman campaign. Last winter she ran the fourth fastest time in school history in the 60-meter hurdles. lt;br />Amanda Alston will enter the season with a personal best of 7.75 seconds in the 60-meters and 55.45 seconds in the 400-meters, which the eighth and sixth fastest time in school history. lt;br /> lt;br />MEN lt;br />"We should be good from the 200 meters up on the track," Walker said. "Our strength in the field is going to be the high jump.
