Comments
EUGENE, Ore. It's time for one last meet for senior distance runner Ellie Child, this time on the biggest stage. Child, a native of Kaysville, Utah, will run in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA Championships this week at Oregon's Hayward Field. The women's steeplechase semifinals will begin at 6:02 p.m. MT (5:02 Pacific) on Thursday and consist of two heats, with the top five finishers in each heat, plus the next two fastest times, advancing to the championship race, which is scheduled for 4:54 p.m. (3:54 p.m. Pacific) on Saturday. The race can be seen live on ESPN3. Child qualified for the NCAA Championships with a time of 10:15.25 in the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Austin, Texas, on May 19. It will be her second time as an individual at an NCAA Championship this season. Last fall she won the Big Sky title in cross country, then earned All-Region honors and qualified to compete at the NCAA Championships. This will be her first NCAA Championship in track and field. This year she also won individual titles in the indoor and outdoor track.
