Wildcats to host Wildcat Indoor Open this weekend

The Wildcats will host the Wildcat Indoor Open this Thursday and Saturday at the Weber County Fairgrounds and Swenson Gym. The throwing events will start at 2 p.m. on Thursday with the men's shot put and women's weight throw. On Saturday, the men's pole vault will start at 9 a.m. While the running events will begin at 2 p.m. with the trials of the women's 55-meter hurdles. lt;br />Both the men's and women's team will have one last chance to pick up some qualifying marks in hope to send as many athletes to the conference meet as possible. lt;br />"This is a really important meet for those athletes that don't have a qualifying mark yet," Director of Track and Field Dan Walker said. "It gives some athletes a chance to earn that trip to Flagstaff by either getting the qualifying mark or having one of the top 16 times or marks. It is also fun for the athletes to run at home and perform in front of their friends and family." lt;br /> lt;br />HOLY STOKES! JAMIE BREAKS HER OWN SCHOOL RECORD lt;br />Jamie Stokes, a junior from Ogden, Utah, broke her own school record in the mile-run at the Husky Classic. Her time of 4:43.12 was nearly a second faster than her previous time set just two weeks earlier. That time is the fastest in the conference by nearly five seconds. She also has the fourth-fastest time in the conference for the 800-meters this season. lt;br />Also, Stokes picked up her second Big Sky Athlete of the week honor the conference announced on Tuesday. lt;br /> lt;br />OSHEKU PICKS UP ANOTHER QUALIFIER lt;br />Tony Osheku Jr., a junior from Salt Lake City, Utah, picked up two victories at the MSU-UM-WSU-Dual Meet, 60-meters and 200-meters. His time of 22.01 was a personal-best and qualified him for the conference meet later this month. That time is also the fastest-time in the conference so far this year. lt;br /> lt;br />PORTER GOES BIG IN MONTANA lt;br />Jazmin Porter, a senior from French Gulch, Cali., threw a personal-best in the shot put this weekend.
